Liquid Nitrogen in Dewars and Cryogenic Tanks
LN₂
Liquid nitrogen (LN₂) is the liquid form of the nitrogen element. The chemical symbol for nitrogen is N and its atomic number is 7. Under standard environmental temperature and pressure, nitrogen exists as a stable diatomic gas (N₂) and is the fundamental component of many commercially valuable compounds, such as ammonia, nitric acid, organic nitrates, and cyanides. Liquid nitrogen is widely used in fertilizers, energy storage, and high-performance organic materials, such as Kevlar fibers and cyanoacrylate adhesives. Unlike nitrogen-based chemical derivatives, the content of this product page refers to liquid nitrogen (LN₂), which is the cryolized form of pure nitrogen. Approximately one-third of global industrial nitrogen production is supplied in the form of liquid nitrogen. Liquid nitrogen is produced through cryogenic air separation and liquefaction techniques, with a boiling point of -195.8°C, providing efficient and rapid cooling effects in fields such as food, materials science, biotechnology, and metal processing.
