Nitrogen Gas for Industrial Applications
N₂
Nitrogen is a chemical element with the symbol N and atomic number 7. Under standard environmental temperature and pressure, nitrogen exists as a stable diatomic gas (N₂). Nitrogen is the fundamental component of many commercially important compounds, including ammonia, nitric acid, organic nitrates (propellants and explosives), and cyanides.
In addition to its widespread application in fertilizers and energy storage materials, nitrogen also forms an important part of many high-performance organic compounds, such as Kevlar fibers used in high-strength textiles and the main component of strong adhesives - cyanoacrylate.
Given the extensive application range of nitrogen-containing chemical compounds, this page will specifically introduce the applications of pure nitrogen gas (N₂).
Approximately two-thirds of industrial nitrogen production worldwide is supplied in gaseous form, while the remaining one-third is produced and transported in liquid cryogenic nitrogen form.
